My entry for Udon's Streetfighter Tribute book, I didn't get accepted, but it was great fun to work on this none-the-less.
I thought about doing an action scene....but then decided against that as I wanted to explore the SF universe in another mood.
So I was struggling to come up with a good idea until this came to me when I was on the bus in the last few days of the contest. The character Sakura is your average everyday cheerful school girl, but is strangely tied into the violent world of street fighting. I wanted to place her in a scene where it would be normal for Sakura the schoolgirl, but not Sakura the Street Fighter.
The composition could use more work, as with the rendering (not sure if the fact that I muted the colours on everyone but Sakura worked or not). I also didn't use refs at all apart from looking at some sailor skirts so I think there must be heaps of anatomy errors.
We just wanted to let you know that you were quite close to getting in to the Tribute book. It was a very tough competition with a lot of entries and it was hard to make the final cuts. Your piece has a good feel and struck a strong chord of Sakura apart from everyone around her as a Street Fighter.
Hopefully we'll be able to put your piece on a Fan Art gallery page in our upcoming comics as a consolation of sorts.
Thank you so much , I'm honoured that you guys would take the time to comment on my piece, it was great fun working on this...I hope there will be more competitions in the future!
PS: Unfortunately, I don't think its possible to buy Udon comics down here in New Zealand from stores, I heard they are sold on Amazon? I'll have to look into this ...thanks for the consolation
Hey this is a pretty nifty concept you came up with. I could see if you had more time you really could've pushed this. I'd say the composition is great and the anatomy you dished out is also pretty good.
Somehow though Sakura's stomach area looks a little off to me(...or maybe I'm just thinking how to make her look sexier?). You could move the rib cage closer in, shirt drape over in the middle somewhat more(to give the shirt more weight and tattered feel), hips a bit outwards(she's not Cammy though), and given where her left elbow ends I think her skirt should be riding a bit lower-maybe 2 inches or so. Some liquify here n there and it'll be perfect.

This article explores the basics of watchers and how we react to certain situations. Although it does not affect some deviants, and the tips are generally related to common sense, we hope the article is a worthwhile read and that the majority learn something from reading this.
